Technical crisis modern Russia
It is actual fact, that humanist occupations are very lucrative today. Since school a lot of people suppose this work to be very absorbing. With such an opinion they are brought up in their families, go to school, to a institute and finally they begin bringing up their own children that way. Impasse.
Why is it so? What do make people think that manual operations have lost their significance?
There are several causes.
firstly modern engineering has got such a high level of development that society is capable of using it without having special technological skill. thereby there is no necessity for further diffusion of technical knowledge. Humanits use begins dominating in all aspects of life.
Secondly it is an well known fact that we live in the consumer society. People in it don’t want to work with their hands. They like to explain everything and use things, but not to make something by themselves. Naturally this fact does not affect positively on diffusion of engineering knowledge. People are simply not interested in it.
Thirdly the resource base has reached such a extent of desolation that we frequently have no place for practice after learning the theory.
Finally a very significant thing is the policy of the state. What professions does it promote as needed nowadays? We can easily learn it by researching our mass-media. The internet, the television, the radio, the press – what professions do they popularize today? It is easy to prove that they are full of humanist images. Mass-media display us pleasant, nice way of life in which there is no place for hard-work, but there are a lot of talks, beautiful scenes and fantasies.
What do we have as a result?
Lack of qualified workers in the technological sphere. There are a lot of philosophers, lawyers, artists, singers, politicians, professors but a few people, able to operate for example a any jointer planer. This will lead to a perilous situation when we will be needing very simple things which are very important for our comfortable existence.
Besides that our education system is totally destroyed. There is no technical literature of high quality – it is either sold or lost. There is no qualified lecturers able to train worthy personnel working in technical spheres.
Such is the picture. Sad, isn’t it?
Then, there is an adequate question: what should our country do in order to correct the situation? I think that there are several actions to be taken. firstly our country should change its attitude towards technical professions and specialities and theirs perspectives. Then our country should do its best in order to popularize technological professions in mass-media.
And of course, the best way to save engineering professions is to assign enough means both for the payment for the people who work in this sphere and to the creating an adequate resource base.
